Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.5.1.1.1 - Explain sustainable waste management practices

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define sustainable waste management and explain why it matters for their community.
  2. Outline at least five approaches to waste management (reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, and disposal) and explain how each contributes to sustainability.
  3. Identify and classify waste materials found in their school or home according to the waste management approaches they can be treated with.
  4. Conduct a simple survey of waste management practices in their community and present a brief oral or written report of their findings.
  5. Assess whether a given waste management practice is sustainable or unsustainable, giving reasons for their judgement.
