Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.2.2.2.2 - Describe orally, the meaning of a given one-step equation with one unknown.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State, in their own words, what an equation is and what the symbol (box or letter) represents in a one-step equation
- Explain orally the meaning of a given one-step equation such as [] - 13 = 20, identifying which number is unknown and which operation connects the parts
- Describe the relationship between the three numbers in a one-step equation (the unknown, the known part, and the result)
- Use the words “unknown”, “equation”, “equal”, “left side”, and “right side” correctly when explaining an equation aloud
- Read a one-step equation aloud as a complete sentence, such as “A number minus 13 equals 20”
