Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.1 - Discuss the principles of periodisation
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define periodisation in their own words and explain why athletes and coaches use it in training programme planning.
- Identify and describe the three main phases of periodisation: macrocycle, mesocycle, and microcycle.
- Explain the three distinct phases within a training season: preparatory, competitive, and transition phases.
- Discuss how the principles of overload, progression, variation, and recovery are integrated within a periodised training plan.
- Work collaboratively in groups to present points on periodisation, with each member taking on a defined role (lead, secretary, presenter).
