Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.2.2.LI.2 - Apply the principles of periodisation for training programme planning

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Design a microcycle training programme (one week) for a chosen sport, correctly applying the principles of periodisation.
  2. Plan a mesocycle (4 to 6 weeks) that builds progressively on the microcycles, showing increasing intensity and appropriate recovery.
  3. Outline a macrocycle (one year) for a selected athlete, dividing the year into preparatory, competitive and transition phases.
  4. Justify the ordering of training sessions within a cycle using the principles of overload, variation and recovery.
  5. Present and defend a group-designed training programme, giving reasons for each phase decision.
