JHS3 Physical Education And Health · Term 2, Week 1
Traditional Rhythmic Gymnastics, Games and Dance
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.2.1.3.1 - Create and classify a variety of traditional rhythmic gymnastics and adaptation according to level of intensity (e.g., low, moderate and high intensity)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and name at least five traditional rhythmic gymnastics movements from Ghanaian culture and classify each as low, moderate, or high intensity.
- Create at least two original adaptations of a traditional rhythmic movement and correctly classify them according to their intensity level.
- Measure their pulse before and after performing movements, and use the results to justify their intensity classification.
- Work in small groups to discuss, refine, and present a classification chart of rhythmic gymnastics movements with reasons for each classification.
- Record their estimated duration of performance and pulse readings in their self-journal to track their effort in physical activity.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
1. Based on the research list and performance of traditional rhythmic dance movements identified in B1- B8, classify the rhythmic movements into low, moderate and high intensity activities. 2. In small groups, think-pair-share and refine classification for class presentation. 3. Check your pulse or heartbeat to determine accuracy of classification. Higher heartbeat per minute denotes high intensity while pulse at restingheartbeat denote low intensity. 4. Record estimate of duration/measure of performance in your self-journal as your effort to increase involvement in physical activity.
