Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.3 - Analyse and explain social conditions as inspirations behind works of art and design.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define social condition and explain at least three ways in which social conditions (such as religion, politics, economy, and daily life) inspire the creation of artworks.
  2. Analyse one Ghanaian cultural object or artwork in small groups, identifying the specific social conditions that inspired its creation, and present findings orally to the class.
  3. Differentiate between the social conditions that inspire anonymous art (such as community regalia or traditional masks) and those that inspire works by known artists.
  4. Produce a short written analysis (one paragraph) of a local artwork or cultural object found in their community, explaining how the social conditions of the makers shaped its form, material, and purpose.
