Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.1.2.1.3 - Discuss reasons for taking care for the environment.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least four reasons why it is important to care for the environment, drawing on both spiritual and practical grounds.
  2. Explain how indigenous Ghanaian beliefs about the environment (such as gods residing in nature) motivate environmental care.
  3. Demonstrate at least two practical ways of protecting the environment, such as reforestation, proper waste disposal, or proper farming practices.
  4. Dramatise a short scene showing how indigenous Ghanaian attitudes towards the environment can be applied to a modern situation.
  5. Work effectively in groups to plan and begin a small environmental care project for the school.

Project Work
Divide learners into groups to take care for the school's environment, e.g. planting trees, growing grass and desilting gutters. Each group should keep records of their activities and how they are affecting the school's environment.
