Learning Objectives
Indicator: B3.2.1.1.1 - Explain problems with the use of land and water
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Describe at least three activities that happen on land in their community, such as bush burning, sand winning, and quarrying.
- Identify at least three activities that take place around water bodies in their community, such as fishing, swimming, and throwing waste into the water.
- Explain how human activities on land, such as galamsey and indiscriminate dumping, damage the land.
- Explain how human activities around water bodies, such as defecating in streams and dumping refuse, pollute the water.
- Compare pictures of damaged land and water with situations in their own neighbourhood and state what is similar or different.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Through pictures/films of illegal mining sites e.g. Galamsey sites, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, choked gutters, roads with potholes etc. Compare situations in the pictures with what pertains in their area: Learners talk about the problems with the use of land: i. Describe activities taking place on land in your community. (Slash and bush burning, sand winning, quarrying). Teacher shows pictures of water bodies or conduct a study tour to observe water bodies within their communities. Learners talk about activities taking place around water bodies in their community e.g. fishing, swimming, irrigation, farming, throwing waste in water bodies, defecating in streams.
