Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.2.1.1.1 - Describe ways of making the environment clean and safe

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four things in the school environment and sort them into natural and man-made things.
  2. Describe at least three actions they can take to keep the environment clean, such as sweeping, picking litter, and proper waste disposal.
  3. Explain why planting trees, avoiding bush burning, and avoiding defecating in water bodies help keep the environment safe.
  4. Draw and colour a picture showing a clean and safe environment.
  5. Name at least two community workers, such as the police and fire service personnel, who help keep communities safe.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Take a nature walk of the school environment and observe things in the environment- man made and natural: water, trees, stones, animals, buildings, cars, tables, chairs, etc.
Learners talk about things they can do to make the environment clean and safe e.g. planting trees, proper waste disposal, avoid bush burning, avoid defecating in water bodies, legal mining.
Learners identify ways of protecting land, e.g. do not throw polythene bags, water sachet, empty cans on the land.
Learners draw and colour a clean environment.
Learners draw people who keep our communities safe e.g. the police, fire service personnel.
Learners demonstrate safe practices in the community, e.g. sweeping school compound, picking litter.
