Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.2 - Explain the participatory extension approach and methods.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define the participatory extension approach and distinguish it from the transfer-of-technology approach covered in Week 12.
- Identify at least four key methods used in participatory extension delivery, such as farmer field schools, demonstration plots, participatory technology development, and farmer-to-farmer visits.
- Explain the roles of the extension officer, the farmer, and the community in a participatory extension process.
- Analyse a case study of a participatory extension project in Ghana and present findings in a plenary session.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the participatory approach compared with the top-down approach for vegetable and ornamental crop producers.
