Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.4.1.1.1 - Know that light is a form of energy

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain that light is a form of energy that enables us to see.
  2. Identify at least three sources of light in their environment, such as the sun, fire, torchlight and electric bulbs.
  3. Demonstrate what happens when a room is made dark and then light is introduced, and describe what they observe.
  4. Predict what life would be like on Earth if there were no light, and give at least one reason why light is important.
  5. Classify given items into things that produce light and things that do not produce light.

- Ask learners to talk about light and where light comes from.
- Engage learners to do the following activities: closing and opening the windows and doors of their classroom, switching on torch or lighting a candle to look for an object in a dark room, switching on the light in the classroom etc.
- Learners talk about their experiences based on the activities performed.
- Ask learners what will happen if there were no light on the earth.
- Assist learners to understand that light is a form of energy that helps us to see.
