Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.4 - Draw the surface development of truncated prisms.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Explain the principle of developing the surface of a truncated prism and state why the cut face must be treated separately from the true length development.
Identify the true shape of the cut surface on a truncated prism given a model or a board illustration.
Draw the surface development of a given truncated rectangular prism using drawing instruments to a stated scale.
Draw the surface development of a given truncated triangular prism, labelling all fold lines, cut lines and dimension lines correctly.
Produce a freehand sketch of a truncated prism container design and justify the choice of dimensions based on the function of the container.

Project-based learning: In a freehand sketch, design a new milo container that will come out on 1st January of next year and use the appropriate drawing instrument to make surface development of it taking into consideration its dimensions
