Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.4.1.3 - Round decimals to the nearest tenth and hundredth

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State the rule for rounding decimals to the nearest tenth: look at the digit in the hundredths place, and if it is 5 or more, round up; if it is less than 5, round down.
  2. State the rule for rounding decimals to the nearest hundredth: look at the digit in the thousandths place, and if it is 5 or more, round up; if it is less than 5, round down.
  3. Round given decimals to the nearest tenth with accuracy, showing which digit was examined to make the decision.
  4. Round given decimals to the nearest hundredth with accuracy, showing which digit was examined to make the decision.
  5. Convert common fractions to decimals and round the results to the nearest tenth or hundredth as instructed.
