Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.4.1.1 - Describe and represent decimals (tenths and hundredths) concretely, pictorially, and symbolically

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name tenths and hundredths shown in pictorial representations such as shaded grids and number lines.
  2. Use a place value chart with a decimal point to write fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 as decimal numbers (e.g., write 7/10 as 0.7 and 23/100 as 0.23).
  3. Convert given common fractions into equivalent tenths or hundredths and then write them as decimals.
  4. Represent a given decimal such as 0.4 or 0.25 using a grid or number line.
  5. Read and write decimal numbers correctly, placing digits in the correct tenths and hundredths positions.
