JHS3 Mathematics · Term 3, Week 6
Position and Transformation
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.3.3.1.3 - Investigate the concept of congruent and similar shapes
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define congruent shapes and similar shapes in their own words, giving at least one distinguishing property for each.
- Identify pairs of shapes as congruent, similar, or neither, using measurements of sides and angles.
- Verify congruence and similarity by comparing corresponding sides and corresponding angles of shapes drawn on a coordinate plane.
- Determine the scale factor between two similar shapes and use it to state the relationship between their corresponding sides.
- Justify whether an enlargement produces a congruent or a similar image, explaining why.
