Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.4 - Construct an ellipse as a plane geometrical figure.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define an ellipse and identify its major axis, minor axis, foci, and centre.
Construct an ellipse using the two-circle (concentric circle) method given the major and minor axes.
Construct an ellipse using the focal point (pin and string) method given the major axis and the distance between foci.
Apply the construction of an ellipse to design a table top and explain the steps taken.
Evaluate their own and peers’ constructions against a set of accuracy criteria.
