Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.3.1.LI.1 - Compare Ghana’s population growth to that of Africa and the world

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • State the current population figures of Ghana, Africa and the world from provided data sources.
  • Calculate and compare the annual population growth rates of Ghana, Africa and the world using given figures.
  • Construct simple comparative charts (bar graphs or line graphs) showing population trends for Ghana, Africa and the world over the last 50 to 60 years.
  • Explain at least three reasons why Ghana’s population growth rate differs from Africa’s overall rate and from the world’s average rate.
  • Interpret population data to predict at least one likely consequence of current growth trends for Ghana’s development by 2050.
