Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.2.1.1.3 - Identify the error(s) in a given table or chart

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Inspect a given table or chart row by row and column by column to locate elements that do not follow the established pattern.
  2. Identify and circle or point out the specific cell(s) in a table or chart that contain an error.
  3. Explain, in their own words, why a particular entry is wrong by referring to the pattern that other entries follow.
  4. Correct the error by writing the value that should have been in the table or chart.
  5. Justify their corrections to a partner or the whole class using clear mathematical reasoning.

A wide black-and-white mathematical teaching visual is organised as a table with horizontal divisions, vertical divisions, open white space around the main marks. Visible labels, values, and notation include: 2; 3; 4; 5; 6; 8; 12; 18; 20; 24.
The "Number of Tables / Number of Chairs" table (1-4, 2-8, 3-12, 4-18, 5-20, 6-24) is set beside the exemplar and its cells interleave with it in the text layer; the figure shows it.
