Pattern and Relationships

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.1.1.7 - Write a rule in words and in algebra to represent a given pattern

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the constant difference in a given linear pattern and state it correctly.
  2. Write the rule for a pattern in words, using phrases like “multiply by” and “add” or “subtract.”
  3. Translate the word rule into an algebraic expression using the variable n.
  4. Use the algebraic rule to find the output for any given input or term number.
  5. Justify their chosen rule by checking it against at least two terms in the pattern.
