Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.2.3.3.2 - Apply movement concepts, principles, and strategies in performing beginning-intermediate level martial art (e.g., karate, judo, taekwondo, etc.)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Demonstrate at least three basic stances (e.g., front stance, back stance, horse stance) used in karate or taekwondo with correct foot placement and balance.
- Perform a controlled beginning-intermediate punch and block combination, showing proper alignment of hips, shoulders, and fists.
- Apply the movement principle of base of support to maintain balance when executing a basic kick or strike.
- Work in small groups to create and perform a short sequence of three to four martial art movements, adapting rules and equipment to include all group members.
- Record an estimate of the time spent practising martial art movements in a personal self-journal.
