Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.3.1.2 - Apply movement concepts, principles, and strategies to perform beginning-intermediate level athletics (e.g., middle distance, jumping and throwing)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate correct pacing strategies for middle distance running (800 m equivalent) by completing a timed run without stopping to walk.
  2. Perform the standing long jump using proper take-off, flight, and landing technique, recording their distance in centimetres.
  3. Execute an overhead throw (shot put style or javelin style, using adapted equipment) with correct grip, stance, and follow-through.
  4. Explain how body position, force, and rhythm affect performance in at least two of the three athletics events (middle distance, jumping, throwing).
  5. Record their own performance estimates for each event in a personal athletics self-journal and set one personal improvement target.
