SHS1 Design And Communication Technology · Semester 1, Week 6

Object Manipulation in Drawing

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.1 - Analyse and record the concept of object manipulation and manipulation techniques.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define object manipulation in drawing in their own words and explain why artists manipulate objects rather than simply copying them.
  2. Identify at least four distinct manipulation techniques (e.g., distortion, exaggeration, simplification, rotation, scaling, fragmentation) and describe what each technique does to an object.
  3. Categorise given examples of drawings according to the manipulation technique used, justifying their classification with reasons.
  4. Analyse how concepts, symbols, metaphors and narratives associated with an object can guide the choice of manipulation technique.
  5. Record their findings from group research in an organised format (e.g., a labelled sketchbook page or a summary chart) showing the concept of object manipulation and at least three techniques with accompanying sketches.
