Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.1 - Discuss how to acquire and maintain energy balance and metabolism through nutrition and dietary habits.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define energy balance and explain the relationship between energy intake (food consumed) and energy expenditure (physical activity and bodily functions).
  2. Calculate their personal estimated daily energy needs using a simple formula based on age, gender, and activity level.
  3. Identify at least three dietary habits that promote healthy metabolism and list two habits that disrupt it.
  4. Plan a one-day Ghanaian meal plan that achieves energy balance for an average SHS student, including portion sizes and meal timing.
  5. Explain the consequences of both positive and negative energy imbalance on body weight, metabolism, and overall health.
