Learning Objectives
Indicator: B2.1.2.4.3 - Solve one-step and multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100 using a variety of strategies based on place value, including algorithms.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify whether a word problem requires addition or subtraction by reading carefully and looking for key words and phrases.
- Solve one-step word problems involving addition within 100 using place value strategies (expanded form, base ten blocks) and written algorithms.
- Solve one-step word problems involving subtraction within 100 using place value strategies and written algorithms.
- Solve multi-step word problems within 100 by breaking them into smaller steps and deciding which operation to use at each step.
- Justify their chosen strategy and answer by explaining their working to a partner or the class.
