Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.1.1.1.2 - Skip count forwards and backwards in 10,000s, 100,000s, 500,000s, etc.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Skip count forwards in given intervals of 10,000, 100,000 and 500,000 from any starting number up to the fifth or higher term.
  2. Skip count backwards in given intervals of 10,000, 100,000 and 500,000 from any starting number up to the fifth or higher term.
  3. Identify the interval (step size) used in a given sequence of numbers.
  4. Complete missing terms in a skip-counting sequence using the identified interval.
  5. Communicate skip-counting patterns clearly to peers using correct mathematical language such as “increasing by 100,000” or “decreasing by 50,000”.

This lesson builds on learners’ knowledge of place value from the previous lesson (B8.1.1.1.1) and prepares them for comparing and ordering numbers in the next lesson (B8.1.1.1.3).
