Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.1.1.1.5 - Express integers in a given number of significant and decimal places

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the significant figures in a given integer by locating the first non-zero digit and counting digits from that position.
  2. Round any integer to a specified number of significant figures (e.g., 2, 3, or 4 significant figures) using the rules of rounding.
  3. Round any decimal number to a specified number of decimal places (e.g., 2 or 3 decimal places).
  4. Distinguish between rounding to significant figures and rounding to decimal places, and choose the correct method based on the problem given.
  5. Apply rounding to significant figures and decimal places to solve practical problems involving large quantities and measurements.
