Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.3.3.1.3 - Estimate lengths, heights and perimeter of regular and irregular shapes using referents and verify by measuring, using a ruler or tape.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Estimate the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes in centimetres and metres using personal referents such as hand spans, strides, and known lengths.
  2. Measure the perimeter of regular and irregular shapes accurately using a ruler or measuring tape.
  3. Compare estimated perimeters with measured perimeters and explain any differences.
  4. Construct at least two different shapes that have the same given perimeter.
  5. Explain the strategy used to find the perimeter of a given shape.
