Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.3.3.1.2 - Select and justify referents for metre and centimetre

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least five common referents in their environment for a metre and a centimetre.
Select an appropriate referent (metre or centimetre) for measuring given items and explain their choice.
Justify their selection of a referent by comparing the size of the item with the size of the referent.
Match items in the classroom and school environment to either metre or centimetre referents with accuracy.
Work in pairs to sort items into “best measured in metres” and “best measured in centimetres” groups, giving reasons for each choice.
