Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.5.4.1.3 - Make artefacts/products using wood, metal/plastics

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Prepare the workshop and workbench for a wood or plastic project, following safety rules and checking that all tools are in good condition.
  2. Check the dimensions on a cutting list against a working drawing and identify any errors before cutting begins.
  3. Follow a given operation sequence to mark out, cut, and assemble the parts of a wooden or plastic artefact (e.g., a simple stool or a plastic document holder).
  4. Prepare the surface of the finished artefact and apply an appropriate finish such as sanding sealer, varnish, or polish.
  5. Test the finished artefact for strength, stability, and correct dimensions, then evaluate and report on any modifications needed.
