Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: K1.6.1.1.6 - Recognise, sort, classify, describe and extend non-numerical patterns.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recognise a simple repeating pattern of shapes, colours, or sounds (e.g., red, blue, red, blue).
  2. Sort objects or cards by colour, shape, or size to prepare for pattern-making.
  3. Classify items into groups that repeat in a pattern order.
  4. Describe a pattern using words such as “repeat,” “again,” and “next.”
  5. Extend a given pattern by adding the correct next item(s), for patterns following a 2,3,2 or ABAB structure.
