Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.1 - Describe various types of customary and statutory land tenure systems.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define land tenure and distinguish between customary and statutory land tenure systems.
- Describe at least four customary land tenure types, including family land, communal land, rented land, and sharecropping, with examples from Ghanaian communities.
- Describe at least three statutory land tenure types, including leasehold, freehold, and State/public land acquisition.
- Explain how land can be acquired through maternal lineage, paternal lineage, spouse’s family, purchase, or personal ownership.
- Work in mixed-gender groups to research and present findings on factors that affect land tenure systems in Ghana.
