Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.3 - Examine challenges in customary and statutory land tenure systems.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall at least three challenges associated with customary land tenure systems and three challenges associated with statutory land tenure systems in Ghana.
  2. Explain how disputes arise from multiple sales of the same land, unclear boundaries, and the absence of proper documentation.
  3. Analyse how delays in land registration and high costs affect individuals and businesses seeking land for agricultural production.
  4. Evaluate the effects of land litigation on agricultural investment and food production in Ghana.
  5. Suggest practical solutions to address the key challenges in both customary and statutory land tenure systems.
