Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.5.LI.1 - The pillars of health and how they influence life

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Define health in their own words, going beyond the simple idea of “not being sick” to include physical, mental and social wellbeing.
  • Identify and explain the four pillars of health: nutrition, physical activity, sleep and relaxation, and stress management.
  • Describe how each pillar of health influences daily life, using examples from their own routines.
  • Explain why drinking water regularly is essential for health and give at least four reasons for its importance.
  • Work collaboratively in mixed groups to research, discuss and present findings on the pillars of health using ICT tools.

Assessment (1.1.5.AS.1): Level 3: Explain why it is important to sleep or relax and state at least four factors to consider when planning meals Level 3: Explain all four pillars of health and indicate at least four reasons why it is important to drink water regularly.
