Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.3.1.1 - Compare and order a mixture of fractions: common, percent and decimal fractions (up to thousandths)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Convert any common fraction to a decimal or percent, and any decimal or percent to a common fraction, with accuracy up to thousandths.
  2. Compare two fractions given in different forms (common, decimal, or percent) by first expressing them in one common form.
  3. Order a mixture of three or more fractions (common, decimal, and percent) from least to greatest or greatest to least.
  4. Locate and order fractions given in different forms on a number line.
  5. Justify their ordering decisions by explaining the conversion or comparison strategy they used.

To compare and order a mixture of common, decimal and percent fractions, express them in one form (i.e. either common, decimal or percent); e.g. to order 0.758, 5/8 and 73%; we have 5/8 = 625/1000 = 62.5%, 0.758 = 758/1000 = 75.8%, and 73% = 73/100 = 0.73, Hence the order from least to the largest is 5/8, 73% and 0.758
