Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.3.2.1 - Compare and order fractions with like denominators by using pictorial representations and finding equivalent fractions using the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD)

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Compare two fractions with unlike denominators by drawing pictorial representations (fraction charts or number lines) to show which is larger or smaller.
  2. Find equivalent fractions for given fractions using the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD).
  3. Order a set of three fractions from smallest to largest by converting each to an equivalent fraction with the LCD.
  4. Order a set of three fractions from largest to smallest, explaining the reasoning used.
  5. Justify their comparisons and ordering using both pictures and written explanations.
