Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.1.3.1.2

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Explain that a fraction can name a part of a group of objects, such as 1 out of 4 oranges being one-quarter of the group.
  • Read and write fractions in symbols (e.g. 1/2, 2/3, 3/5) and in words (one-half, two-thirds, three-fifths).
  • Demonstrate fractions on a number line by locating points between 0 and 1 or between 0 and 2 for fractions like 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4.
  • Match a fraction in symbols to a picture showing a part of a group, and vice versa.
  • Use a number line to find missing fractions when some fractions are already marked.
