Indicator: B2.1.3.1.3 - Determine the number of halves and quarters in a whole

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State the relationship between a whole and one-half, and between a whole and one-quarter, using concrete materials and pictures.
  2. State the relationship between one-half and one-quarter (that one-half is equal to two quarters).
  3. Determine the number of halves in a whole (2) using card cut-outs and pictorial representations.
  4. Determine the number of quarters in a whole (4) using card cut-outs and pictorial representations.
  5. Justify their answers by folding, cutting, or drawing to show why a whole contains 2 halves and 4 quarters.
