Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.1.3.1.2 - Count in halves and quarters (fourths) using concrete and pictorial representations of halves and fourths.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Count concrete objects (such as paper cut outs, orange slices, or card pieces) in halves using the language “one-half, two-halves, three-halves, four-halves”
  2. Count concrete objects in fourths using the language “one-fourth, two-fourths, three-fourths, four-fourths”
  3. Count pictorial representations of halves and fourths and state the total using the correct fraction language
  4. Match a given number of fraction parts (halves or fourths) with the correct counting name
  5. Work in pairs to count and record halves and fourths from pictures, explaining their answers to a partner
