Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.4.4.1.2 - Explain the relationship between magnetic force and Newton’s Second Law of motion; and show the law’s application to life.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- state Newton’s Second Law of motion in their own words and write the formula F = ma.
- explain how a magnetic force, once applied to an object, causes the object to accelerate in the direction of the force.
- perform a simple experiment using a magnet and a metal object to demonstrate that a greater magnetic force produces a greater acceleration.
- calculate the acceleration of an object when given its mass and the applied force, using F = ma.
- identify at least three everyday situations in Ghana where Newton’s Second Law and magnetic force operate together or separately.
