Learning Objectives
Indicator: B8.3.4.1.2 - Discuss the usefulness of the different crops and animals involved in the different farming systems.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain how crops and animals within a farming system contribute to each other’s growth and survival.
- Discuss the specific contributions of crops (such as providing food, shade and soil improvement) and animals (such as providing manure, labour and pest control) to farming systems.
- Analyse how each component supports the long-term sustainability of mixed farming, intercropping, crop rotation and other farming systems.
- Present reasoned arguments about which components of a farming system are most valuable and justify their viewpoints with evidence.
- Write down a summary of the contributions of crops and animals towards the sustainability of at least two different farming systems.
