Energy Efficiency and Conservation

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.3.LI.1 - Develop energy management plans.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define energy management and explain why facilities need a structured plan for it.
  2. List at least five key components of an effective energy management plan.
  3. Describe the step-by-step process for developing an energy management plan for a facility.
  4. Sketch a basic energy management plan for a given facility (e.g., a school, small business, or home) showing objectives, actions, responsibilities, and monitoring measures.
  5. Present and defend their energy management plan in small groups, giving and receiving respectful feedback.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Managing Talk for Learning: In pairs, learners think and share views on what they understand by energy management. In moderated discussions, learners discuss the importance of energy management in facilities as well as the benefits of developing a plan for it.
Initiating Talk for Learning: Through questions and answers, learners explain the key components of an energy management plan and the processes involved in developing a plan for a facility. In small groups, guide learners to sketch energy management plans with the aid of a sample. Groups share their sketches with the whole class for comments and additions. Encourage them to share views in a respectful manner and tolerate the opinions of others.

Assessment (2.2.3.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding.
