Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.3.2.LI.2 - Assess the role of trade in the socio-economic development of Ghana and the challenges facing the sector.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain at least four ways trade contributes to the socio-economic development of Ghana, using specific examples of Ghanaian exports and imports.
  2. Categorise the challenges facing Ghana’s trade sector into internal (domestic) and external (international) challenges with at least two examples in each category.
  3. Analyse the relationship between trade and other sectors already studied, such as tourism, by identifying at least two interconnections.
  4. Assess the impact of trade on different groups in Ghanaian society, including local manufacturers, women traders, and small-scale producers, using evidence from case discussions.
  5. Propose at least three realistic solutions to address a given challenge facing Ghana’s trade sector, justifying each proposal with reasoning.
