Indicator: B5.2.1.2.1 - Describe the benefits of the sun to the earth

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least four benefits the earth derives from the sun, including warmth, light, day and night cycles, and energy.
  2. Explain in their own words how sunlight helps plants to grow well.
  3. Predict and describe what would happen to life on earth if the sun stopped shining.
  4. Work in groups to discuss and present findings on the benefits of the sun to the earth.
  5. Demonstrate through observation that sunlight is necessary for plant growth.

- Learners, in their groups, present their findings. These may include the following; the sun provides warmth to the earth, light for plants to grow well, provides day and night cycles and energy.
- Learners brainstorm on what will happen if there was no sun.
Project: Importance of the sun to plant growth. Learners demonstrate the importance of sunlight to the growth of plants.
