Learning Objectives
Indicator: B2.5.2.1.2 - Name some common water-borne diseases and their prevention
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least three common water-borne diseases: cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea.
- Identify dirty water as the likely source of disease-causing microorganisms, and clean water as safe.
- Explain in simple terms why drinking dirty water can make a person sick.
- State at least two ways to prevent water-borne diseases, such as boiling water and filtering water.
- Create a simple poster or song that teaches others how to prevent water-borne diseases.

- In groups learners observe containers of dirty water and clean water. - Show pictures or videos of people suffering from diarrhoea, cholera, and typhoid. - Ask learners to identify which sample of water (dirty or clean), is likely to contain microorganisms that cause diseases. - Let learners discuss how they will prevent themselves from contracting water-borne diseases (boiling water, filtering water, etc.). - Let learners create posters, compose songs or rhymes on how to prevent water- borne diseases.
