Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.4.1.2.1 - Identify common features of graphs that use many-to-one correspondence and use that understanding to draw bar graphs or pictographs, complete with title, labelled axes, key or legend, to represent data collected (up to 4 categories of data).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name the common features of a bar graph or pictograph, namely the title, vertical axis and label, horizontal axis and label, and the key or legend.
  2. Explain what many-to-one correspondence means in a graph (for example, 1 picture represents 5 items, or 1 square represents 10 mm of rainfall).
  3. Draw a bar graph or pictograph from data presented in a table, using up to 4 categories, with a complete title, labelled axes, and a key or legend.
  4. Read values from a bar graph or pictograph they have drawn and use the key to find the actual amount each bar or symbol represents.
