Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.4.1.1.1 - Organise and represent (using pictures/objects) data with up to three categories.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Sort objects or pictures into up to three categories based on a given attribute
Represent the number of items in each category using pictures or objects laid out in a one-to-one correspondence
Count and record the total number of items in each category from a picture representation
Answer simple questions such as “how many altogether” and “how many more or less” by pointing to and counting the pictures

E.g. 1. Have a picture of learners in front of the class and ask the learners to use two different pictures/objects to represent the number of males and females. Repeat with pictures of animals
E.g. 2. Using a one-to-one correspondence to solve simple problems (i.e. how many altogether, how many more or less) problems requiring interpretation of the concrete representation of pictures as in E.g. 1 above
