Crop Production
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.2.3.2.2 - Evaluate the importance of knowledge of the maturity stages of different crops to human beings
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Describe at least three maturity stages of a named crop and state the specific use of each stage.
- Explain how knowledge of maturity stages guides a farmer in deciding what to harvest, when to harvest, and which crops to sell or store.
- Compare the maturity stages of a crop grown in the community with the same crop grown or used in another region or country.
- Justify why harvesting a crop at the wrong maturity stage leads to losses in quality, money, or nutrition.
- Use a simple criteria table to evaluate the best maturity stage for a given crop purpose (for example, fresh eating, storage, or seed saving).

Term 1, Week 9
(Week 9 of the year)
Our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order across three terms of twelve weeks. NaCCA does not fix the week, so follow your school's scheme of learning.
- Source document note
-
The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:
- indicator text - p.98: the code B9.2.3.2.2 is printed again on p.97 for a different indicator, "Evaluate the importance of knowledge of maturity stages of different crops to human beings"; the document contradicts itself and both are transcribed
