Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.1.1.3 - Identify numbers in different positions around a given number in a number chart

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

State the position of any number in a number chart using directional terms: above, below, left, right, and diagonally.
Identify the number that appears in a specified position relative to a given number on a number chart (e.g., “two places to the right” or “one place above”).
Locate the numbers immediately before and after a given number in the same row and in the same column of a number chart.
Explain the pattern of increase or decrease they notice when moving up, down, left, or right on the chart, using multiples of the chart’s step value.
Complete a partially filled number chart by using their knowledge of positions to deduce missing numbers.
