Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.1.2.2 - Count and convert Hindu Arabic numbers to Roman numerals up to 100 (C) and vice versa

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Convert any Hindu Arabic number from 1 to 100 into its correct Roman numeral form (e.g., 1 = I, 49 = XLIX, 94 = XCIV).
  2. Convert any Roman numeral up to C (100) into its correct Hindu Arabic form (e.g., LX = 60, XCIV = 94).
  3. Read Roman numerals forwards, backwards, diagonally and randomly from a class chart without pointing, using the correct value for each symbol.
  4. Find missing numbers in addition and subtraction sentences that involve Roman numerals, and justify their answers.
  5. Create their own Roman numeral puzzles with missing numbers for a friend to solve.

E.g. 3 Challenge learner to find missing numbers in addition and subtraction sentences involving roman numerals. Ask learners to write similar puzzles for their friends to solve.
