SHS3 Aviation And Aerospace Engineering · Semester 1, Week 15
Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Systems
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.3.LI.2 - Illustrate the pros and cons of each aviation communication technology.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State at least three advantages and three limitations of VHF/HF radio communication in aviation scenarios.
- Compare and contrast two-way radio and mobile phone communication for short to medium range, and long range aviation use.
- Justify, with reasons, which communication technology is most suitable for a given aviation scenario (short, medium, or long range).
- Produce a labelled illustration (diagram or table) showing the pros and cons of at least four aviation communication technologies.
- Defend their choice of communication system in a group discussion, respecting the views of classmates with different opinions.
